Mayor inspects zoo

Mayor P. Rajkumar on Tuesday inspected the Coimbatore Corporation Zoo.

According to sources, he inquired about the steps being taken to feed animals, facilities available for visitors and directed the officials to ensure that the toilet was kept clean and clean drinking water facility was available.

The sources also said that a new zoo director would assume office in the next few days as the State Government has issued orders.

In another development, the Coimbatore Corporation officials warned commercial establishments on Oppanakara Street, Big Bazaar Street and Raja Street to not encroach upon the pavements that were meant for pedestrians.

They also undertook written assurances from the owners of those establishments that they would not occupy the public space. This was a first step. If they owners violated the rules, the civic body would take appropriate action as per law, the sources said.
