Hiremath demands George’s resignation

‘The Minister’s wife and his brother were illegally allotted sites by a coop. society’

April 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:52 pm IST - Bengaluru:

Demanding the resignation of Home Minister K.J. George, the National Committee for Protection of Natural Resources (NCPNR) has sought an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the “nexus between land mafia and politicians”.

S.R. Hiremath from the NCPNR, who released some documents here on Wednesday, charged that Mr. George’s wife, Suja, and his brother K.J. Kuruvilla were illegally allotted sites by the Vyalikaval House Building Cooperative Society (VHBCS) though they were not eligible for it. Mr. George had suppressed information about the site in his election affidavit submitted ahead of the Assembly elections in 2008, he added.

Documents reveal that sites were allotted to Ms. Suja and Mr. Kuruvilla by the VHBCS in 2004. According to the rules, those who already have a house or a plot in the State cannot be allotted another plot by either Bangalore Development Authority or any other house building cooperative society (HBCS). However, Mr. Kuruvilla owns many properties, and Mr. George had obtained a ‘G’ category site in 1992 from the State government, thereby making his family ineligible from any other allotment.
