L-G urges free and fair mayoral polls

Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung has asked SDMC Commissioner Puneet Kumar Goel to ensure that the mayoral polls on Friday is held in a free and fair manner.

Mr. Jung’s office wrote to the Commissioner on Wednesday, a day after SDMC Leader of Opposition Farhad Suri sent a letter to the Lieutenant-Governor , alleging that the secrecy of the ballot may not be maintained.

As per the letter, a copy of which is with The Hindu , states that the Lieutenant-Governor “has desired that every precaution should be taken to ensure that the elections for the SDMC Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Standing Committee members are carried out in free and fair manner.”
