The Talaghattapura police have arrested a businessman for strangling his live-in partner after she started pestering him to marry her.
The police said the accused, Yogesh (40), had taken the victim’s body to an isolated place in Tumakuru, set it on fire, collected the remains after 15 days and dumped it in Hemavathy valley to conceal his crime.
He was picked up by the police based on the missing complaint lodged by the victim’s sister Kanakamma on February 24.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh Kumar, who supervised the investigation, told The Hindu that Yogesh was in a live-in relationship with Shilpa (38) for eight years in Tippasandra. When Shilpa started pestering Yogesh to marry her, he began avoiding her.
When she refused to back down, Yogesh decided to eliminate her.
Inspired by a Kannada film, he strangled Shilpa on February 24. With help of his associate, Gurulinga, he took the body to an isolated place in Tumakuru in a car and set it on fire.
Meanwhile, Kanakamma, filed a complaint with the Talaghattapura police. The police found that Shilpa was in regular touch with Yogesh and had even spoken to him on the phone before she disappeared mysteriously.
Sensing something fishy, the police summoned Yogesh, who initially feigned ignorance. But he confessed to the crime during interrogation. The accused has been arrested for murder and has been remanded in judicial custody.
