A high-level delegation led by Minister for Tourism A. P. Anilkumar will leave for Colombo on Thursday to explore the possibility of creating a new tourism ‘triangle’ circuit in partnership with Sri Lanka and the Maldives to enhance tourist arrivals to Kerala.
The visit, in the midst of Visit Kerala Year 2015, will mark Kerala Tourism’s maiden roadshow in Colombo on Friday to market the destination. During the two-day visit, Mr. Anil Kumar will hold deliberations with Sri Lankan Minister of Tourism and Sports Navin Dissanayak and captains of the tourism industry on the proposed circuit and to work out packages.
21-member team
Secretary, Tourism, G. Kamala Vardhana Rao; Director, Tourism, P. I. Sheikh Pareeth; and Managing Director, Kerala Tourism Development Corporation, Ali Asghar Pasha; are members of the delegation. A 21-member team, representing leading resorts, tour operators, hotels, and Ayurveda centres, is accompanying them.
An international B2B roadshow will be held in Colombo and the State’s destinations and tourism products will be featured. It will be a platform for a meeting of stakeholders of the tourism industry from Kerala and Sri Lanka.
Mr. Rao, who held talks with Sri Lankan Tourism Minister at ITB Berlin, told The Hindu that the aim was to work out a tourism triangle circuit involving the two countries and Kerala that would be mutually beneficial. Kerala Tourism is mulling a travel itinerary that includes three of the most popular destinations in South Asia.
