GURGAON: The brother of a wanted criminal was arrested early Wednesday morning after his gang shot at and kidnapped the husband of a woman, who had filed FIRs against them for harassment. The accused, Brahm Prakash, was also produced in a city court.
The gang leader, Sandeep Gadoli, and another of his brothers, are still at large. Sandeep has a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head.
Police said they received a complaint from Rajbala, a resident of Gadoli Kurd village, around 1am on Wednesday, stating that Sandeep and his brothers Kuldeep and Brahm Prakash had shot at her husband on his leg and subsequently kidnapped him.
She said the brothers had been harassing her family since 2013, after they realized Rajbala had received compensation from a land sale under the Land Acquisition Act that amounted in crores.
She alleged that they had tried to extort money from her husband, Krishan Kumar, and her son Prashant, several times in the past. After the family resisted the extortion attempts, Sandeep’s brother Kuldeep attacked Rajbala’s son at a marriage event last year, after which she filed a complaint at Sector 10A police station. The criminals then began harassing her to retract the FIR.
After Rajbala refused to give in to their threats, the brothers attempted to kidnap Rajbala’s daughter-in-law a week ago. She filed another complaint. The latest attack on the family was when the brothers came to her house around 12.30am on Wednesday, Rajbala alleged, and thrashed her family, threatening her to retract the new FIR. When she refused, they shot her husband and kidnapped him. They also took Kumar’s licensed double-barrel gun. She called the police and teams were dispatched to raid the area.
Brahm Prakash was arrested in the raid. Rajbala’s husband was found dumped near Gadoli Khurd village in the morning. “We’ll nab Sandeep and the other gang members,” said a ACP Rajesh Kumar.
