NAGPUR: Union water resources minister Uma Bharti accused the Congress of creating hurdles in way of country’s development. Citing the case of Damanganga Pinjal link project and Tapi mega recharge project, she denied that water was being diverted from Maharashtra to Gujarat. She blamed the Congress leaders for sustained misinformation.
She said the Damaganga and Narmada link projects were being taken up as per the high court directives and would provide 36 TMC and 30 TMC respectively to Gujarat.
Maharashtra would not lose out in all this as only water running away to the sea would be tapped. Tapi recharge would benefit north Maharashtra in a big way, she added. She was speaking to reporters during a brief halt in the city on Wednesday.
The minister said Nagpur headquartered NEERI was playing a crucial role in Ganga cleaning project and would be involved in fixing all technical parameters. She said any move to give a political colour to the project was condemnable. Asked about Rahul Gandhi’s fiery comeback in Parliament this week, Bharti said the Congress leader was yet to come out of the childlike mould. “May be his party men are overawed but the government would ignore his immature remarks,” she said.
Meanwhile, state BJP president Raosaheb Danve, who was in the city on Tuesday, said the party would launch a direct contact with members enrolled during the current membership drive that had crossed one crore mark. “The party will meet each member starting with Devendra Fadnavis during the contact drive,” Danve told reporters.
It would enroll about one lakh ‘active members’ and would impart them special training. There were 635 blocks and each would have 150 active members. Training would be done in batches from August to October. Danve stated the state BJP would hold its executive committee meeting in Kolhapur from May 4 to 6. Party national president, Amit Shah would address the inaugural session while Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari would be chief guest for the valedictory function, he added.
