HOWRAH: CID on Wednesday submitted its chargesheet in the Arup Bhandari murder case. The chargesheet names seven - Raju Tiwari, Subham Dubey, Barun Sharma, Sandip Tiwari, Ankit Tiwari, Ananda Prasad and Lal Bahadur - and accuses them of murder and other offences.
All accused are in jail custody. While Raju Tiwari was arrested by Howrah City Police from Benaras, Subham, Barun, Sandip and Ankit surrendered in court after CID took over the investigation on February 5.
Ananda was arrested by Howrah City Police from Howrah station and handed over to CID. The only arrest CID made was of Lal Bahadur from Dakshineswar.
The court fixed April 27 as the next date of hearing.
The chargesheet says Arup succumbed to injuries sustained in a clash between two groups but that tussle did not break out over one group passing lewd comments at women as alleged by the victim’s friend and key witness Abhijit Basu. The 400-page chargesheet submitted in the Howrah chief judicial magistrate’s (CJM) court lists 47 witnesses in the case.
On January 29, during the Saraswati idol immersion, an altercation broke out between two local groups in Rishikesh Ghosh Lane. Later, one group allegedly beat up Arup.
The next day, Arup’s father lodged a complaint at Golabari police station.
