Kavya Madhavan pens lyrics

She wrote the song for a composer friend
Kavya Madhavan pens lyrics
Kavya Madhavan is known to write poetry and has even released an album of songs written by herself.
However, she has rarely penned the lyrics for film songs. In Akashavani, however, she was cornered into writing the lyrics for a song, she quips. “For my film She-Taxi too, I had been asked to pen the lyrics but I refused downright. For this film, however, everything just fell into place,” she says.

Incidentally, actress Suja Karthika is a good friend of Kavya and it is Suja’s brother Sanku who has composed the music for the song. “Sanku is like my own brother to me and he often composes music pieces and sends them to me. This time he sent something which I liked a lot. I felt it will suit the mood of the situation in Akashavani and suggested it to the makers, who also liked it and decided to use it. Then Sanku asked me if I could write the lyrics but I took it as a joke and mentioned it to the makers as a joke. But they got serious about it, however, and there was no way I could back out.” Since Kavya knew exactly the situation in the film, it was easier to write the lyrics, she adds. “Also, it makes me happy to know he is making a film debut because of me.”
Kavya plays the head of a TV channel in the film, a strong character, unlike her usual roles. “I have done strong characters before but this was new in that this is someone who is so confident that she might come across as slightly arrogant. Also, the subject is quite relevant in contemporary times, where misunderstandings abound between couples.”
