Chinnapparaj K of Kallipatti near Erode is a labourer working in Vadackipalayam in Pollachi.
On Tuesday night, his wife Selvi C, 40, did not return home. On Wednesday morning, Chinnapparaj went searching for her at the coconut farm where she works as a
labourer. "When Chinnapparaj questioned Selvi about her whereabouts on Tuesday night, she picked up a quarrel with him. Selvi said that she was with Palani alias Palanivelu, and the fight worsened," police said.
The fight escalated and after a point Chinnapparaj could not stand his insult in front of other workers and the coconut farm's landlord Mayilsamy K. "Unable to withstand the insult, Chinnapparaj picked up a sickle at the coconut farm and cut Selvi's head off her body. Mayilsamy, the landlord is witness to the event, and reported the incident to us," police said. Chinnappraj, then brought the severed head to the village administrative office in Vadickipalayam.

"She used to visit Palani's home, and not return the whole night. This had been going on for over six months, Chinnapparaj told us," the police said. Chinnapparaj himself had also noticed his wife with Palani several times, police said.

Chinnapparaj and Selvi had been living in Kallipatti near Erode until two years ago. "Chinnapparaj moved to Vadackipalayam around two years ago after he caught his wife having an affair in his native village. He moved to avoid a bad name," police said. The couple has three children, a son and two daughters, and all of them are married. Police said that Chinnapparaj and Selvi had grandchildren as well.
