The
Bharatiya Janata Party, in Kashi Kshetra, from today, will be conducting physical verification of the new members who enrolled themselves in the recently concluded week-long membership drive held in 200 slums of 14 districts in the area. The drive was mainly to induct Dalits as members.
A three-member core committee of Kashi Kshetra will be holding a three-day special session for the verification process.
Office bearers of all 14 districts have been summoned to attend the meeting in Varanasi wherein the review of the campaign as well as physical verification of members’ documents would be done.
Talking to TOI, party
vice-president and
spokesman of Kashi Kshetra, Rakesh
Trivedi said, “We will be holding a three days special session for verification of the new members and once the entire exercise is completed, the statistics would be revealed”. He further maintained, “Office bearers of all 14 districts of Kashi Kshetra, comprising Varanasi, Allahabad, Sultanpur, Amethi, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra, Bhadohi, Ghazipur, Kaushambi, Chandauli and Pratapgarh, have been called in to attend the meeting at Varanasi starting from Thursday.”
The special drive was aimed to connect with the Dalits and induct them into party fold. The drive was launched on April 14 on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti and concluded on April 20. During the campaign, the Jan Dhan Yojna of
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had undoubtedly helped BJP to connect with Dalits during its membership campaign.
However, BJP leadership of Kashi Kshetra was quite elated over the response after successful induction of Dalits as its members. Apart from Modi's constituency, Varanasi, BJP leaders claimed to have gained support in BSP dominated assembly seats especially in districts like Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Sonbhadra, Chandauli and Mirzapur, claimed Trivedi.
