Euro area construction output down 1.8% in February from January

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in February this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 1.2 percent compared to January and by 2.4 compared to the same month of 2014. In January, production had increased by 1.6 percent compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in February decreased by 1.8 percent month on month, while falling 3.7 percent compared to February 2014. In January, production had increased 0.6 percent compared to October, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-28 in February decreased by 1.1 percent month on month and by 2.7 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 1.6 percent from January and by 0.5 percent year on year.In the euro area, building construction decreased by 1.6 percent month on month and by four percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 2.6 percent month on month and by 2.7 percent year on year.

As compared to January, construction output in February decreased in Germany by 3.1 percent, and in France and Portugal by 2.2 percent, while an increase of 5.3 percent was registered in Romania, an increase of 3.8 percent was seen in Poland, and a rise of 3.2 percent was registered in Hungary.

As compared to February last year, construction output in February this year decreased in Germany by 8.1 percent, in France by 7.9 percent and in Portugal by 4.5 percent, while an increase of 19.5 percent was registered in Romania, a gain of 6.2 percent was registered in Poland and a rise of 9.4 percent was seen in Sweden.
