Two busines s families are set for a merger of hearts — Xerxes Talati, son of Noshir Talati and on the directorial board of architectural firm Talati & Panthaky Associated, is engaged to Samyukta Nair, designer and The Leela luxury hotels chain scion.
The couple took their friends by surprise when they got engaged in Venice over the weekend. Nair's Instagram account, on which she posted a picture of her beau on Friday, drew lots of attention, with friends and family showering them with their wishes.

While most of Nair's friends knew that the couple was headed to Venice, no one was aware of the impending engagement. "Maybe she was holding her cards close to her heart," one friend suggested.

When ETPanache got in touch with Nair, she responded good-humouredly, "Well, it wasn't me who was proposing!" Talati popping the question probably came as much as a surprise to her. Reluctant to divulge any details, including whether they had set a date, Nair politely said, "We are a very private couple and I really can't say anymore." She did, however, reveal where Talati proposed. "I am in London at the moment, but yes, it happened in Venice."

Amongst the first to wish Nair were fashion designer Manish Malhotra and Sonam Kapoor's producer sister Rhea. Samyukta, daughter of Madhu and Dinesh Nair, is the granddaughter of the late Captain CP Krishnan Nair, founder of The Leela Group.

Expect speculation whe t her the c oupl e will have a destination wedding at one of their luxury hotels.
