In her latest lit-inspired film, “Far From the Madding Crowd,” Carey Mulligan plays Bathsheba Everdene — who predated Katniss Everdeen by a full 134 years.
“Hunger Games” scribe Suzanne Collins has admitted she swiped Katniss’ last name from Thomas Hardy’s 1874 tale. Mulligan is also starring on Broadway in “Skylight” with Bill Nighy.
At a La Grenouille luncheon, she said of her two roles playing independent women: “You’re always looking for strong female characters to play.”
