Governor releases ‘Paharies of J&K’, ‘Vridh Vashisht Samhita’

JAMMU, Apr 21: N.N. Vohra, Governor, released Dr. S.P. Vaid’s book “Paharies of J&K: An Analytical Study” and its Urdu version “Jammu Kashmir key Pahari Log” at a function held here at the Raj Bhavan today.
The author is a Senior Fellow of Indian Council of Social Sciences Research (ICSSR). The two books trace the origin and historical background of the Paharies and their society, culture, Rewaz-e-Aam, socio-economic life, changing lifestyles and the present day aspirations and demands of these people who live in the border mountainous belt of J&K. The author has relied on official records, reports, memories and interactions with knowledgeable personalities of the State.
The Governor complimented the author for writing two analytical books on people who compromise a valuable segment of J&K’s population, and hoped that there would be of benefit to students and scholars who undertake socio-economic research. The Governor wished the author continuing successes in his future literary endeavours.
Vibodh Gupta, Member of Legislative Council, was also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Governor released Dr. Chandermouli Raina’s book “Vridh Vashisht Samhita” at a function held here at the Raj Bhavan today.
The author, an astrologer and Sanskrit scholar who teaches at the Rashtriya Sankrit Sansthan, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, has undertaken extensive research in tracing and studying obscure document and books in various libraries of the country for completing a Scholarly volume in Sanskrit with parallel rendering in Hindi.
This Sanskrit book is based on the ancient manuscript of Maharishi Vashishtha and comprises the first of a two volume series about the contribution of Sage Vashishtha to Indian Astrology.
The Governor complimented the author for translating ancient Indian Sanskrit text and wisdom into Hindi and wished him continuing successes in his literary endeavours to popularize ancient philosophies.
