Remand prisoner dies in hospital

A history-sheeter, who had been lodged at Tenkasi sub-jail, died in the government hospital due to suspected chest pain on Tuesday.

Sources in police said D. Rajkumar alias Ponniah (38) of Surandai, who was facing 10 cases against him, including attempt-to-murder case, was arrested by the Surandai police recently and had been lodged at Tenkasi sub-jail since last Saturday after being remanded in judicial custody.

When he reportedly complained of chest pain, Rajkumar was rushed to the Tenkasi Government Hospital where he died. The Tenkasi police have registered a case.
