Gujarat HC orders probe against Dinu Solanki
AHMEDABAD: Gujarat high court on Tuesday directed the superintendent of police (SP) of Gir-Somnath district to probe five criminal complaints filed against former BJP MP Dinu Bogha Solanki and submit a report to a local court in two weeks.
Justice J B Pardiwala acted on a petition expressing grievance that local cops did not register any complaint against the politician.
Petitioner Mahesh Macwana, an RTI activist in Kodinar town, filed this petition in 2013 and submitted before the HC that “nobody dares to act against the powerful politician”. He cited the cases of assault on citizens and government officials, attempt to murder, loot, rioting, criminal intimidation and violation of arms act and complained of police inaction because Solanki was allegedly involved in these cases.
After hearing the case, the HC asked Gir-Somnath SP, A M Munia, to look into these complaints and do the needful within two weeks. The prosecutor urged the court that at least three months’ time should be granted to probe these cases, but the court said that two weeks would be enough to complete preliminary probe in five cases.
