Councillor suffers burns

Sharmila (28) of Mel Kawhatty near here has been admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital with burn injuries on Tuesday. Police sources told The Hindu that she had reportedly sustained over 90 per cent burns in a kitchen fire accident early in the morning. Earlier, she was taken to Government Headquarters Hospital. Her husband Rajendran (32), who had gone to her rescue, also suffered burns. Both have been referred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. A case has been registered.

Police said that Sharmila is a councillor of the Ooty Panchayat Union and former secretary of the district AIADMK Women’s Wing.
