Hassle-free: Modern complaint centres set up at 10 police stations, says IGP

IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera said on Tuesday computerised complaint handling centres had been set up at 10 police stations of Lahore.


He told a meeting that the centres had been set up at Gulberg, Baghbanpura, North Cantt, South Cantt, Model Town, Mustafaabad, Sarwar Road, and Defence (A, B and C) police stations. These would help speed up the investigation process and improve the thana culture, the IGP said.

He said 83 civilian employees, including 20 women workers, selected through a National Testing Service examination had been recruited for the centres.

“The centers work in two shifts from 9am to 5pm and from 4pm to 11pm. The civilian staff will ensure that FIRs are registered,” the IGP said. He said a complainant would be given a slip carrying information about the FIR, including the name of the investigation officer.

Sukhera said police would soon introduce a system under which calls received at police helpline (15) would be connected to the centres. He said the SPs concerned would look after the administrative affairs of the centres.

Responding to queries related to last month’s Youhanabad incident, the IGP said those involved in the lynching of two people had been identified and a challan had been submitted in a court. He said a probe into the bombing was underway.
