Bobby Hurley knew that he needed to improve recruiting upon accepting the Arizona State head-coaching job, and now, he has a chance to make a major splash that nobody saw coming.

Scout.com's Evan Daniels reported Tuesday that top-10 prospect Thon Maker has added ASU to his list of four schools. In all, Maker is considering Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana and ASU. Maker is a 7-footer who has drawn comparisons to Kevin Durant.

There is a catch, though.

Maker reclassified to the class of 2015, but according to Daniels, it's looking more likely that Maker will begin his college career in the second semester of the 2015-16 season.

His mentor Ed Smith told Daniels:

"It's shaping up like it's going to be mid-year. It's looking more and more like it'll be that. He has his core done. That'll be done on June 23. He's fine in his core. It's just getting the work done."

But why did Maker just add ASU to a list that included three college basketball bluebloods? Smith said that Hurley's hiring of Brian Merritt is to thank.

"We have a good relationship," Smith told Scout. "We've known Brian since Thon was in eighth grade with John Lucas. It's all about speaking to coach Hurley, seeing what their interest is and seeing if a mid-year situation comes."

Daniels also reported that Maker is considering taking a trip to Tempe before reaching his decision.

If you aren't familiar with Maker's game, his highlight video is worth a watch.
