Uber hikes fares for all its services in India

Uber fares for all of the company's services in India such as uberBlack, uberX , and uberGO are now increasing. This move comes as a result of the service tax that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley included in the Union Budget. Service taxes will be added to the total ride fare and not just the commission. The new rates will apply from Tuesday.

Uber said, "In the Union Budget 2015-2016 presented by Honbl. Finance Minister, Mr. Arun Jaitley, an amendment was made to Service Tax rules. This change requires Uber - as an aggregator, on behalf of driver-partners - to collect and remit service tax on fares for all rides on the platform."

Uber also added that the fare structure will be revised in accordance to this. The fares that one sees on the Uber app, or website will be all-inclusive, as always. Previously, to stand out in a cut throat market segment, Uber had cut down rates by as much as 40 per cent back in February. Its main competitors include OLA, Meru and TaxiForSure.
