Hyderabad: The Bengaluru police again served a notice on MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi prohibiting his entry into the city for a period of five days from April 24 to 28. The Uttar Pradesh government also refused permission to the MIM to hold rally schedule on April 26 in Allahabad.
The MIM had decided to hold a public meeting on April 25, which is to be addressed by Mr Owaisi at Chota Maidan at Shivaji Nagar in Bengaluru. The local leadership of the MIM had sought police permission for the meeting. While denying permission, the commissioner served a notice to the MP prohibiting his entry into the city.
Earlier in February this year, the police commissioner of Bengaluru had prohibited his entry for two weeks. While reacting on the recent notice, Mr Owaisi said that he would challenge it in a court of law, since it sought to interfere with the right of freedom of expression under Article 25 of the Constitution.
He lamented that the notice was a convenient device to stop his party from strengthening its base before the Bengaluru Municipal elections. He said that the MIM had been granted permission for a rally in Allahabad on March 15 and Agra on March 29 but the permission later cancelled with administration citing board examination as a reason.
The Allahabad rally was rescheduled on April 26, the Allahabad High Court has directed the District Magistrate grant permission for the rally, despite the permission was denied, he added.
