South Indian heartthrobs Dulquer Salmaan and Nitya Menen jetted into Dubai for a few hours over the weekend to kick-start the festivities surrounding their latest romance 'OK Kanmani'. The couple were joined by the maverick moviemaker Mani Ratnam and his legendary actress-wife Suhasini.

"It gives us great joy to be here. I think this is one platform where we get the widest reach for the release of the film. And, get to see all of you in person, and share in the joy. Literally, I think, we got on the plane, and the first show is just starting out. And, I haven’t slept a wink because I want to know what’s happening," said Dulquer.

"It's been very positive, and very encouraging. We have been hearing only good things. Waiting to rush back, but we gave all of you first priority."

Mani Ratnam explained how 'OK Kanmani' interlinks traditional values with a modern twist. "South India to a large extent is conservative. And, if we are witnessing a shift in the traditional thinking then it's time we addressed it, instead of hiding and saying it’s not happening."

Shot entirely in sync-sound, the first for a Mani Ratnam film, the director elaborated how it "tremendously enhanced" the movie. "Apart from that, it also meant the actors had to know their lines very well. And, they have to speak proper. We had to get all the details correct, we didn’t have the option of making up for it later. Everybody around you puts in that much effort to make it work. And, what you get out of a live-sound is actually special."

Having worked with Dulquer's celebrated father Mammotty in 'Dalapathi', Mani Ratnam was forced to compare the two. "I think I've been asked this in every interview. And, I'm going to say this again – they are entire opposites. It's amazing for him (Dulquer) to have grown up in the same house, and not be influenced by a giant next to him."

Soon after they finished the media interactions, the 'OK Kanmani' team then headed to Golden Cinemas to join their fans for the evening show of the movie. Nitya kept everyone on their tones when she rendered the superhit track 'Mental Manadhil'.

Shot by PC Sreeram, and tuned by AR Rahman, the movie releases in two languages, 'OK Kanmani' in Tamil and 'OKBangaram' in Telugu.
