MUMBAI: Based on key performance indicators, including measures taken for women's security, the RPF's (WR) Mumbai division was awarded the 'security efficiency shield' for 2014-15. The division has won the shield after 10 years. Officials said there was a 35% increase in the number of commuters prosecuted for travelling illegally in women's coaches.
The fines collected for the crime have surged to Rs 40 lakh from the previous year's Rs 29 lakh.
A anti-hawking drive was also conducted to clear FOBs for commuters. "A total of 5,118 hawkers were prosecuted—41% higher than the previous year and Rs 32.34 lakh was collected in fines," said an RPF (WR) official. "Over 2,300 auto drivers and cabbies were prosecuted for illegal parking outside termini and stations and Rs 4.41 lakh in fines was collected," he added.
