The report was submitted to the bench in a sealed cover. The Indian Express has, however, learnt from reliable sources that Kanimozhi’s name figures among those against whom the new FIR is being sought to be registered.

Venugopal said the CBI had received audio tapes and investigation revealed that bribery attempts were made to affect the case. The tape was authenticated as well, he added. “Offences under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy), 193 (to give false evidence), 201 (destruction of evidence), 465(forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 486 (selling goods marked with counterfeit property mark) of the IPC are made out against the accused persons,” he said.

For almost a year now, the agency had been examining intercepted phone conversations that purportedly showed how documents were tampered with to cover up the trail of money to the Kalaignar TV, in which family members of Karunanidhi, including his daughter Kanimozhi, have shares.
