Double Gold at Karate Provincials for Daly Stevens

Rhane Daly Stevens a student at École publique l'Odyssée, North Bay brought back two gold medals from the World Karate and Kickboxing Commission (WKC) Ontario Provincial Championships held this past weekend in London. 

Daly Stevens fought in the boys 13-15 year old category. in the -45kg weight class, achieving gold in both the the Continuous Sparring division and in the Point Sparring division against competitors from across the province.  Rhane not only qualified to compete at the WKC National Championships being held in Ottawa this coming May in his fighting events, he also qualified in the boys 17U Classical Kata division which he earned an impressive fourth place at provincial event.

Daly Stevens earned his black belt (shodan) in Shotokan Karate in 2013 under Sensei Carmel Rouhani with whom he had trained as a student for over 6 years.

Rhane currently practices karate at 3 Fires Martial Arts Academy in North Bay under Shihan Darrell Couchie, and recently started intensive training with Shifu Jay Guertin at Phoenix Shaolin Wushu Kung Fu Institute.  Furthermore Rhane continues to train and fight with the Douvris Martials Arts competitive team from Ottawa, led by Master John Douvris and supported by Carmel Rouhani who is now based in Ottawa.

The top four competitors in each division at the National Championships are eligible to attend the WKC World Championships being held this November in Florida, U.S.A.  Daly Stevens having brought home bronze from the World Karate Championship held last year in Ireland continues to work and train hard, and is looking forward to representing Canada again in 2015.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
