Bawana water treatment plant opens today

After the Dwarka water treatment plant (WTP) began functioning, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) is expected to begin operations at the Bawana WTP from Tuesday. With a capacity of 20 million gallons daily (MGD), the plant is expected to supply water in areas such as Narela and Sultanpur, DJB officials said.

“In February, the Bawana WTP started functioning at half its capacity – 10 million gallons of water per day. Water from this plant is likely to reach Narela and Sultanpur, among other areas. It will start functioning to its full capacity from Tuesday,” the source said.

The plant will be inaugurated on Tuesday by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the official added.

Moreover, with the onset of summer and an increase in demand for water, the plant is expected to boost the water supply in the capital.

In order to ease the grievance redressal system, the DJB is also launching campaigns for addressing issues related to billing.

“As a part of this, camps will be held at zonal revenue offices in a phased manner beginning May 2. These campaigns will be attended by senior officers of the Revenue department of the DJB,” an official said.

The DJB is expected to analyse complaints by identifying areas from where complaints are being made. It will also set up camps to address such issues.

“The DJB is also internally developing a software — to track and process the complaints received during this campaign — where a complaint number will be generated for tracking and reference. Attempts will be made to resolve those grievances, which can be solved on the spot. In case, based on the grievances received, some policy decision is required the same will be taken up speedily,” the official said.
