MUMBAI: The BMC plans to utilize mechanized brooms to clean Eastern Freeway and Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) and appoint a contractor, KBA Infrastructure, for the job for Rs 94 lakh. The proposal will be tabled at the civic standing committee meeting on Wednesday.
Though the MMRDA built the Eastern Freeway and the SCLR, as they are a part of the Development Plan, the BMC has to clean them. The 6.45-km SCLR connects the Western Express Highway in Santacruz and Eastern Express Highway in Chembur, while the 16.8-km Eastern Freeway links P D’Mello Road in south Mumbai to Eastern Express Highway in Ghatkopar.
Last year, the BMC had allotted a five-year contract of cleaning roads in Bandra-Kurla Complex using mechanical brooms. According to sources, several such machines have been lying idle in the civic garage due to lack of maintenance and hence, the BMC has decided to outsource the work.
