MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has urged people to involve themselves fully in various development schemes of the government for only such involvement will result in its success. "People's involvement in development schemes is far more important than that of the elected representatives or officials implementing them," Nalin said, exhorting people to translate the 'MPs Model Village Scheme' mooted by the Prime Minister as their own scheme.
Chairing a meeting of district level officials and villagers of Balpa village in Sullia taluk chosen by him under the scheme, Nalin said the above model village scheme aims at promoting health, education, cleanliness, and amity among villagers in the chosen village. The scheme aims at ensuring that villagers individually and collectively achieve all round progress in socio-economic aspects as well in environmental issues and all stakeholders should work towards this end.
Upholding right of villagers in raising demands pertaining to development works in their area, the MP likewise it is also incumbent on part of the villagers to pay their dues in time to the respective gram panchayats and aid the various development plans that a panchayat draws up. Incidentally, the villagers sought four primary health centers, development of school, branch of a nationalized bank, development of rural roads and installation of power transformers in the village.
Responding to complaints of illegal sale of liquor in the village, Nalin instructed officials of both excise and police departments to keep such practice under check. The MP also instructed the officials to provide reports on the demands raised by the villagers in the meeting. Representatives of MRPL, OMPL, MSEZ, MCF and other stake holders present at the meeting too announced their contribution for the development of the village under the scheme on this occasion.
