Former three-time World Champion and Formula One legend Niki Lauda said Bahrain's circuit was "absolutely perfect".

"[The track is] fantastic, every year there's something new and improving," said Mr Lauda, who is a pundit for German TV during Grand Prix weekends and acts as non-executive chairman of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team.

"The best change was the night race, which was incredible for television in Europe and the race here.

"I cannot complain about anything, it's absolutely perfectly organised.

"For this region, the night race is a sensation because the television pictures you send around the world is unbelievable, just fantastic."

Engine

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone said in Bahrain last week that he would like the sport to return to the V8 engine.

The F1 currently uses 1.6 litre four-stroke turbocharged 90 degree V6 reciprocating engines.

"[It is] absolutely not possible," said Mr Lauda.

"Everyone wanted this engine and you cannot change it every year.

"It cost an enormous amount of money to develop this engine and this engine is here for the next five years.

Mr Ecclestone had said that the sport needed to return to the old engines, which were "more reasonable" in cost and would have people and sponsors return to the sport.
