The city police booked cases against over 1,000 vehicle users for various violations during intensive checks conducted over Saturday evening and Sunday.
They were booked for over-speeding, drunk driving, lack of proper vehicle related documents and overloading.
City police sources told The Hindu that checks were conducted to minimise the possibilities of road accidents and also to prevent the criminals from fleeing with stolen vehicles.
Caught
In the process, the police caught 15 persons who had a history of involvement in various crimes.
“We have obtained an undertaking from the accused that they will not be involved in any crime anymore besides collecting their full whereabouts that include the present location of stay,” a senior official said.
