Open laser tourney concludes

The Navy Open Laser Championship hosted by the Indian Naval Academy (INA), at Ezhimala here, concluded with Shekar Singh and G. Randhawa of the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), Mumbai, winning the championship in Laser Radial-Class and in Laser-Standard sail boats respectively.

The event that began on April 16 concluded on Saturday evening. Pankaj Kumar of the INWTC and Vishnu Saravanan of the Madras Engineers Group, Bangalore, secured the second and third positions respectively in the Laser Radial class, while Virender Singh and G. Sahoo of the INWTC came second and third respectively in Laser-Standard class sail boats.

INA Commandant Vice Admiral P. Ajith Kumar was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, a press release here on Sunday said. He presented the medals and cash awards to the winners. He highlighted the INA’s initiative to host events of international standards.

The waters of Ettikulam Bay at Ezhimala witnessed nine races during the championship. As many as 34 participants, including three women, displayed their watermanship skills during the race, the INA said. Teams from various parts of the country participated in the event.
