Engineering student found dead inside car, one arrested

Harpal was allegedly miffed at Rudra for rejecting his romantic advances for the last two-and-a-half years.

Manjalpur police in Vadodara arrested one Harpal Kirit Patel on Sunday for allegedly strangling to death a 22-year-old engineering student and resident of Manjalpur, Rudra Pandya.

Harpal, who was allegedly miffed at Rudra for rejecting his romantic advances for the last two-and-a-half years, is believed to have strangled her on Saturday while she was driving her car to attend tuition classes in the city.

On Saturday evening, the Manjalpur police discovered the abandoned car belonging to Rudra’s father, Rituraj Pandya who is a district medical officer, near Vishwamitri railway station.

The marks of strangulation around her neck was visible, the police said. It was then that Rituraj Pandya shared with the police officers that he suspected Harpal for he had been threatening Rudra over denial of his proposal.

On Sunday, the police arrested Harpal from GIDC area of the city and he is said to have confessed to his crime.
