Could Bono and the boys be set for home town gigs in Dublin’s 3Arena this Christmas?

Bono and the boys are said to be planning five concerts in the venue to take place in late November and early December to finish their Innocence and Experience tour in the capital.

It is believed that more than 72,000 tickets will go on sale for the gigs throughout the next few weeks, according to The Sunday World.

This is the first time the band will play in the venue, formerly known as The Point, since December 1989. In 2009, the band played two sold-out gigs in Croke Park as part of their 360 tour.

Meanwhile, Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen are set to kick off their world tour on May 14 in Vancouver, Canada.

The band will play eight shows in New York’s Madison Square Garden, six of which are already sold out. The European leg of the tour will kick start in Turin on September 4.

While preparation for the tour is well underway, Bono continues to recover from injury after falling from a bicycle in New York’s Central Park last November.

The front man suffered a facial fracture and facial abrasions as well as three fractures to his shoulder blade.

Speaking of the tour Bono said: “We are going to try to have a completely different feeling from night one to night two, and have some fun playing with the idea of innocence and experience. More to be revealed,” he said.

The band recently attended the funeral of their good friend Today FM’s Tony Fenton, where they performed Ordinary Love in his memory. The much-loved DJ passed away last month.
