Qatari Ashghal begins work on key link road

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced that Alcat Contracting Company has started construction work on phase one of the Rawdat Rashed-Umm Garn Road, which falls under the authority's Local Roads and Drainage programme.

The project, which includes a 33km road, aims to provide a safe and developed road network linking Salwa Road to Dukhan Road and ease traffic flow around the Rawdat Rashed residential area.

The project has been divided into five stages to facilitate the construction and reduce the impact of works on residents and visitors.

Under the project, the additional number of lanes and the right lane designated for heavy vehicles will increase traffic capacity.

The project will also provide improved street lights to create safer roads for both travellers and the community. Besides, it will link current and future developments to key areas in Qatar.

Phase one is located near Salwa Road towards the north and includes the construction of an 8.5km dual, three-lane carriageway, stretching from Salwa Road to a site near the existing entrance of the Rawdat Rashed area. This phase is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2016.

Phase two of the project started in the first quarter this year. This includes the construction of a 10.4km dual, three-lane carriageway. The road starts from where phase one ends and runs all the way to a new roundabout that will link to an existing road in Al Shahaniya, past the Rawdat Rashed area.

This phase will help eliminate the movement of heavy vehicles that are currently passing through the Rawdat Rashed residential area. Bin Omran Trading and Contracting is responsible for the implementation of Phase two of the project, which is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2016.
