Bombay cinema is still behind Tamil: Amitabh Bachchan
When Bollywood veteran, Amitabh Bachchan, visited the city on Friday, he was all praise for Kollywood and the movie buffs here. He spoke about his memorable visits to Chennai, saying, Ive been coming here for the last 40 years to make films. I remember, the first time I came to Chennai was in the early 70s, to shoot for a film which was the remake of a Tamil film called Kai Kodutha Deivam starring the legendary Sivaji Ganesan.
Ive been a great admirer of Sivaji sir ever since.
Bachchan also visited Sivajis house in T Nagar and had lunch with the icons son, Prabhu and his family, on Friday. He thanked Prabhu, saying, There have been many occasions when I have driven past this house. But today, Ive had the great privilege and honour of visiting it I consider it a pilgrimage.
Bachchan also had a few things to say about Tamil cinema and movie buffs here. Today, when we were at T Nagar, near Sivaji sirs lane, where his house is, it was a great honour to meet the multitude of people who came to see us, it was wonderful to see their love and affection; people in north India wonder whether we actors from Bollywood will be recognized here, but really. I want to thank the people of Chennai and Tamil Nadu. I have always believed... even though Hindi cinema is slightly more popular world over, I have always admired the Tamil film industry. I believe Bombay cinema is still a few steps behind Tamil cinema; your efficiency, your content, the way you make such progressive films, have always been a step ahead of the rest of the country, said Bachchan.
