SIT recommends FIR against ex CM, HC questions non-compliance
BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh high court on Friday, severely criticised special task force (STF) probing the MPPEB scam for non-compliance of recommendations made by special investigation team (SIT) monitoring investigations. SIT recommendations include FIR against a former chief minister of the state.
SIT had submitted seventh status report before the court on April 10. The 15-page report comprises documents related to communication made to STF.
According to sources, SIT asked STF to register FIR against three ‘dignitaries’. SIT also gave details and status of investigation of 27 of 55 cases, in which final charge-sheet is yet to be filed. STF had failed to submit a compliance report on these recommendations and court took a serious note of it.
“We called upon advocate general to give a breakup of directions issued by the SIT to STF in those cases with explanation of STF as to why those directions have not been complied with till submission of VII report,” Justice A M Khanwilkar and Alok Aradhe ruled on Friday.
“Details must contain date on which direction was issued to STF and whether specific time-frame was mentioned by SIT that has not been complied and with a reason,” the order reads.
“For the time being, we defer the hearing till April 24 with a hope that by that date, another SIT report will become available with a feedback from STF on matters referred in VII report. That we asked details, does not absolve STF from complying with directions given by SIT,” the court order said.
STF officials had been shying away from complying with recommendations on grounds that they don’t have evidence of money transactions made by dignitaries pointed out by the SIT. However, SIT is of the opinion that these VIPs have misused their official position to benefit others.
