LAHORE - A Lahore High Court’s review board on Saturday extended detention of Usman Ishaq and Haq Nawaz, members of a banned outfit, for another 90 days over their alleged involvement in provoking people against the state and spreading hatred.
A three-member review board headed by Justice Mamoon-ur-Rasheed heard the case. Both the accused were taken to the court under high security arrangements.
A law officer on behalf of the Punjab government appeared before the board and said that the accused were involved in spreading hate, extremism and sectarianism in district Bhakar.
“They also challenged the writ of the state. Keeping in view the sensitivity of their acts, the government detained them,” he told the judge.
However, Advocate Syed Muddassar Gillani appeared on behalf of the accused and argued his clients were detained purely on political grounds. The government did not have any evidence about their involvement in allegations levelled against them, he further said.
He also requested the board to set them free as their detention was illegal and unlawful.
After hearing both sides, the bench accepted the plea of the government and extended the detention for 90 more days.
