Walker: Clinton ‘measures success’ by government dependency
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) on Saturday argued that 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton would repay voters who helped elect her by making them more reliant on bureaucratic power.
“Hillary Clinton seems to measure success based on how many people are dependent on government,” Walker said at the New Hampshire Republican Party’s First In the Nation leadership summit in Nashua, N.H.
{mosads}“We should measure success based on the exact opposite,” he added. “It’s time for government to get out of the way.”
Walker — a potential 2016 contender himself – said a Clinton presidency would carry the same big government actions as President Obama’s. He added that fostering such dependency on federal authority ignored America’s most cherished values.
“Nobody wrote in my yearbook, ‘Good luck on getting dependent on the government,’ ” Walker said.
“The president, Hillary Clinton and other people like them seem to think that’s what we should aspire to,” he argued.
“There’s a reason we celebrate July 4 instead of April 15,” Walker added, comparing Independence Day with Tax Day.
“In America, we celebrate independence from government, not dependence on it,” he concluded.
Walker also claimed Clinton would mirror Obama’s abuse of executive command, saying both Democrats made decisions that deprived Americans of personal liberty.
“Obama and Clinton advocate a top-down approach to government,” Walker said. “They tell you what to do, when to and how to do it.”
“It has failed at the federal, state and local level,” he said.
The Wisconsin governor confessed he was still “optimistic” about America’s future given its people had not yet abandoned their freedom. He urged voters to remember what the U.S. stands for as they cast their ballots next election cycle.
“If you work hard and play by the rules, you can do anything or become anything you want to in America,” Walker said.
“The opportunity is equal to all,” he vowed. “That’s the American dream. We need to put that focus out there.”
