PESHAWAR - Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has issued a total of 1,61,441 non-prohibited arms licences in just two-year rule in the province after assuming power in the aftermath of last general elections held in May 2013.
The data provided by the provincial Home and Tribal Affairs Department to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly secretariat revealed that these arms licences have been issued in all 25 districts of the province.
It said that Tribal Affairs Department does not issue individual licences but deputy commissioners issued licences of non-prohibited arms. Without mentioning names of the people who got these licences, the data revealed that the most number of licences have been issued in Bannu district that are about 66,000 followed by Peshawar with 11,642 licences.
The district-wise figures of likenesses showed that Kohat is on third position with 8,009 licences, Mardan had 7,721, Swat 6,452, Karak 5,584, Charsadda 5,285, Swabi 5,705, Dir Lower 5,380 and Manshera had 4,566 licenses issued. Malakand got 3,218 arms’ licenses, Dera Ismail Khan 2,836, Battagram 1,541, Abbotabad 3471. Similarly, Nowshera 2,429, Kohistan 1,103, Haripur 4,221, Torghar 1,263, Lakki Marwat 3,679, Shangla 2,902, Tank 2,485, Hangu 1,763 and Buner got 2,883 licenses. Chitral and Upper Dir with 213 and 970 arms license issued in last two-year, it added.
