Tirupur: R. Jothi Priya, a final year engineering student of Angel College of Engineering, is elated as a gadget she developed with the assistance of two of her batch mates, R. Gowtham and Kavin Kumar, to prevent motorcycle accidents, has started bringing laurels to her.
After a research paper of Jothi Priya appeared in an online research journal, a prominent magazine in the country, on its report on accidents, included the benefits of using the gadget in motorcycles to prevent accidents. A German radio will interview her next week, as Germans are always passionate for motorcycles.
The appliance developed by Jothi Priya has four types of sensors. The alcohol sensor freezes the ignition if the rider is drunk.
The handgrip sensor will detect drowsiness of the rider from the pressure exerted on the accelerator, and the temperature sensor will check whether the engine is hot beyond permissible limits, said Ms. Jothi Priya. A micro electromechanical system will automatically send an SMS to a pre-fed number of an ambulance service in case of emergencies, she said.
Ms. Jothi Priya already has received a placement order from a software firm in the country.
She hails from Madurai, and is living with her grandparents here. She lost her father at an young age, and her mother left her to marry again.
