Camp to promote harmony at Perur

Tourism Minister S.P. Shanmuganathan has appealed to the residents at Perur in Srivaikuntam to maintain communal harmony at a programme organised on Saturday. While the State government had been extending a series of benefits for the well-being of people and to improve their living conditions, a few incidents in the past at Srivaikuntam had left bitter feelings for him, he said at the programme organised in Srivaikuntam by the district administration to build communal harmony among the locals. He asked them to remain united. He sought the involvement of parents to motivate children towards unity.

The programme ‘communal harmony camp’ was presided by Collector M. Ravikumar. Besides, officials from 16 departments of government departments took part in the programme to offer assistance to the people.

During the camp, the officials were involved in offering counselling on higher education, skill development programme training, guiding recruitments and job opportunities in government sector, employment training, motivating people to create self-employment, assistance through Revenue Department, applications for government welfare scheme benefits including old age pension, patta transfer and house site pattas. Similar programmes would be organised at six villages in Srivaikuntam taluk in coming days, the Collector said. Welfare assistance was extended to many beneficiaries. Tuticorin Sub Collector S. Gopala Sundara Raj, Superintendent of Police Ashwin M. Kotnis and officials attended the programme.
