Parents of students of Adi Cakobau School (ACS) in Sawani, Naitasiri, have been reassured that current students will be accepted at the school until they complete Year 13 studies.

However, new enrolment procedures will be in place next year to reflect a Ministry of Education decision to open up more places for students from rural areas and outer islands.

The reassurance to parents, after several questions on the issue, was made by ACS principal Laisa Soko during the school’s Parents and Teachers Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the school yesterday.

Mrs Soko said the decision by the ministry really had an impact on the girls at the school, with many asking whether they would be accepted next year.

“Please, reassure your daughters today because they have been running to us asking us if they will have to find another school from next term because the research information required by the ministry are their names, forms, address, parents occupation, the nearest schools to their homes, their provinces,” she said.

“You need to reassure the girls because we have been told by the ministry that the current students will continue until Year 13.”

LESBIANISM WARNING

Meanwhile, another serious issue brought up by Mrs Soko was the school taking action on what she called lesbianism among students.

She confirmed that she had sent a boarder home and ordered that the student now be a day scholar because of this.

Mrs Soko said they had counselled 10 students because of allegations of lesbianism between girls at the school.

She urged parents to be aware of their daughters’ whereabouts during the upcoming school holidays to avoid such incidents from happening.
