BENGALURU: Justice MF Saldana, retired judge of the Karnataka high court, has urged the chief minister to issue a notification banning entry of vehicles into Cubbon Park on weekends and public holidays.
"The 50,000-plus citizens who visit Cubbon Park every day have resolved that if the government doesn't issue the notification and implement it before May 1, then they will have no option but to sit on a dharna and physically stop vehicles from entering the park on weekends and public holidays," Justice Saldanha said in his letter to chief minister Siddaramaiah and horticulture minister Shamanoor Shivashankarappa.

He noted that density of vehicles and sound pollution are destroying the park and if it has to survive, corrective action is necessary. "The speed and recklessness with which two-wheelers and four-wheelers drive into the park make it exceedingly dangerous not only for humans but any form of life. There are daily fatalities of birds and other forms of life in the park; there have been 38 hit-and-run cases in the last three months," Justice Saldanha said.
