Live Green in Lucknow: A TOI campaign

Ever wondered why there are no sparrows around you anymore? Why do you see more concrete and steel and less green as you drive around the city? Why the Gomti looks so dirty? Why do you find city air a little more difficult to breathe? In Lucknow, are you living “Green”? TOI launches campaign to make city greener, sustainable.
Live Green in Lucknow: A TOI campaign
LUCKNOW: Ever wondered why there are no sparrows around you anymore? Why do you see more concrete and steel and less green as you drive around the city? Why the Gomti looks so dirty? Why do you find city air a little more difficult to breathe? In Lucknow, are you living “Green”?
We in TOI regularly write on deteriorating air quality, shrinking green spaces, cramped spaces, noise pollution and a host of urban problems.
But, we know that more needs to be done than simply highlighting problems to keep Lucknow unspoilt.
Our love for Lucknow, a city that has been our home for more than three decades, has led us to launch Live Green, Lucknow – an initiative to join hands with Lucknowites and tackle the city’s environmental challenges. Over the next month and a half – with the campaign culminating on World Environment Day on June 5 – we will provide information and ideas, in consultation with domain experts, for a greener and more sustainable development of the city that is fast progressing.
The campaign will see TOI involve citizens in activities – from discovering the unknown in the city to making an effort to bring about a change. We would take readers on nature walks, clean the Gomti banks, make sparrow houses, plant trees. There will be workshops for readers and brainstorming by experts. Also, a TOI-Green Hero award to vie for.
We will work with various departments of the state government, institutions and NGOs to achieve these.

Join us in this endeavour, write to us and send us photos on out social media platforms. Be a part of this campaign to Live Green.
