Top seed Elina Svitolina battled back from a second set deficit to defeat Irina Falconi and move into the semi-finals of the Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogota.

Falconi, seeded eighth, went 5-3 ahead and had set points to take the match into a decider after stepping up the tempo following a lengthy rain delay in the Colombian capital, but Svitolina dug in and saved both.

The Ukrainian, though, blazed a trail to win the next four games and seal a 6-3 7-5 victory over her American opponent and set up a last four meeting with Teliana Pereira, who breezed past 2006 and 2011 champion Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-0 6-4.

"It was a long day for me," Svitolina said on the WTA Tour website. "We were in and out all the time because of the rain.

"I had to warm up a couple of times, stretching three times, warming up, running four or five times - and the conditions are already tough, so that made it even more difficult to play my best."

Second seed Monica Puig crashed out though after being defeated by Yaroslava Shvedova.

The fifth seed edged a tight first set and then had too much for her Puerto Rican in the second to seal a 7-6 (7-1) 6-2 victory.
