Man injured in bear attack

One person was injured in a bear attack near Kil-Kotagiri on Thurday.

According to V. Selvam, Ranger, North Eastern Slopes (NES), K. Maadhan (48), a member of the Irula community and his wife were returning after collecting some forest produce near Aracode when a bear with two cubs emerged from a lantana thicket and attacked Maadhan.

People in the vicinity chased away the animals and took him to a hospital. He was treated for an injury on the right thigh and later shifted to the Coimbatore Medical College hospital for observation.

Awareness

Mr. Selvam said a programme to create awareness of the man-wild animal conflict was now being conducted in the habitations in the NES.
