Kannada novelist and Saraswati Samman recipient S.L. Bhyrappa on Friday said the universities may lose their worth if they lack scholarly and steadfast faculty members who actually drive them.
Also, the universities may be posed with a challenging future if they don’t produce talented and estimable pupil, he added.
In his acceptance speech after receiving the honorary doctorate at the 95th convocation of University of Mysore here, he said both the “student-centric” erudite faculties and gifted students were evenly essential for the universities’ prospects.
“Getting an honorary doctorate from the University of Mysore is a matter of pride. I’m delighted and thankful to the university,” he added.
‘A wake-up call’
Expressing delight over the rise in the number of girl students bagging gold medals, Prof. Bhyrappa said, “It’s a wake-up call for the boys. Brace up, otherwise the girls will overtake you.”
‘A rebirth’
Filmmaker and writer Nagathihalli Chandrashekar, who had bagged eight gold medals and two cash prizes in MA in Kannada at the University of Mysore three decades ago, reminisced his days in Manasagangotri and thanked the university for its gesture.
“The honour bestowed on me today is like a rebirth for me,” said Nagathihalli Chandrashekar.
