Seminar on Gandhian politics in Manipal from April 24

The Gandhian and Peace Studies, Manipal University, in collaboration with Department of Geopolitics and International Relations, will be holding a two-day seminar on ‘Revisiting Gandhian Philosophy and Politics’ here on April 24 and 25.

In a press release, Varadesh Hiregange, Director of Gandhian and Peace Studies, said that the seminar would attempt to understand Gandhi in greater depth, subjecting his philosophy and politics to closer scrutiny.

The seminar intends to focus on certain Gandhian notions and his constant struggle to realise them in practical politics, particularly through major mass movements.

Arvind Kumar, Head of the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations, Manipal University, will deliver the keynote address on ‘Mahatma Gandhi’s world view’.

The other topics and speakers in the seminar are: ‘Roots and Shoots of Gandhian Philosophy’ by Prof. Hiregange, ‘The South African Days’ by Tungesh G.M., ‘Non Cooperation Movement and its implications’ by Praveen Kumar, ‘Salt Satyagraha and its relevance in the contemporary world’ by Ravindranathan, ‘A leap forward: Quit India movement’ by Monish Tourangbam, ‘Women in Gandhian politics’ by Padma Rani, ‘Understanding final years and Gandhi’s assassination’ by K. Phaniraj.

H. Vinod Bhat, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University will inaugurate the seminar.

The registration for the seminar is open till April 20. There is no registration fee, and certificates will be given to those who attend both the days of the seminar.

Priority would be given to undergraduate and post-graduate students.
