Rohini Sindhuri, Chief Executive Officer of the Mandya Zilla Panchayat, on Friday took the officials of various departments to task for poor utilisation of funds released by the government for taking up different development projects.
Presiding over the quarterly review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP), Ms. Sindhuri said she was disappointed with the poor performance of some departments in achieving the targets set for them.
Ms. Sindhuri criticised the officials of the Department of Backward Classes and Minorities (BCM), Fisheries, Social Forest and other departments for what she described as missing a great opportunity to utilise the funds allocated for them.
Huge loss
“The performance of your departments is very poor,” she told the officials of the departments of Social Forest and Fisheries. The district would lose a huge amount of funds because of your poor performance, she said.
Duty
The officials should work for the success of schemes of their department, which was a part of their duty, and achieve the targets, she told Lingarajappa, an official from the BCM Department.
“What prevented you from achieving the target even after receiving the required funds?” she questioned a few officials. The Youth Empowerment and Sports Department should plan and execute its programmes properly. Instead of keeping a series of programmes pending till the end of financial year, the department should start implementing the programmes at least three months in advance, she told Assistant Director of the department H.P. Manjula.
Ms. Sindhuri instructed the BCM officials to provide quality food to students staying in government hostels.
Wardens should adhere to the food chart while providing food, she said.
She directed the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) officials and those of a few other departments to furnish proper details/statistics about the progress of schemes.
Action
Ms. Sindhuri directed the officials to provide adequate water to schools and anganwadi centres in parched regions,, besides initiating measures to plant saplings and increase greenery.
Stern action would be initiated against the officials for their failure to achieve targets related to various development projects, she warned.
Zilla panchayat president Lalitha, vice-president Chandrakala and Chief Planning Officer Kendagannappa were present.
